There are two botanical gardens in Chandigarh, India, one located in the Punjab University and another between the Rock Garden and Sukhna Lake in Sector 1. The botanical garden of Punjab University has distinctive varieties of plants. On one corner, you can find cacti and succulent plants, while; the other corner contains several evergreen and exotic plants. Also, you can find gorgeous lotus flowers over here. The botanical garden that lies between the rock garden and Sukhna Lake is spread on an area of 88 acres. The best part about this garden is the rare species of plants and small lily pools. Apart from these two botanical gardens, one more garden of such kind is in the process of establishment, where you'll be able to find indigenous plant species and trees of medicinal value.
Botanical garden Chandigarh & Nature Park is a garden spread over 176 acres of land and established in 2002 by Lt. Gen. J.F.R. Jacob. It consists of 15 botanical sections, one of which is dedicated to a medicinal plants garden, home to more than 75 species of medicinal trees and 55 species of medicinal herbs and shrubs. It is also connected to a nature reserve called Patiala-ki-Rao through a causeway. The garden is the perfect place for some refreshing time.

Interesting facts about Chandigarh Botanical Garden
The office building near Gate No.1 has been constructed as Nature Interpretation Centre. The exhibits related to medicinal plants and other kinds of flora and wildlife will be displayed here to create awareness amongst the masses about nature, the environment, medicinal plants, forests & wildlife. A Conference Hall with a capacity to accommodate more than 100 persons would be utilized to educate the students, farmers, NGOs, and other interested groups. Workshops & other activities related to environmental education will also be carried out in the Conference Room.
To go round the garden, a five km. cycle track has been laid. The department will provide ‘bicycle’ on a nominal rent to the visitors. A network of cement concrete pathways of 6 km. length crisscrossing the entire length & breadth of the garden has also been constructed to have close access to each section of the Botanical Garden.
In addition to the lake, 5 more water bodies have been developed inside the garden. These water bodies will also harvest the rain water and add to the beauty of the garden. Besides, the purpose here to is to recharge the underground water aquifers.
An exclusive nursery for Botanic Garden has already been developed over 2 acres of land. It consists of a green shade net-house and a poly-house too. Saplings of medicinal plants are already being distributed to the individuals/ organizations for the promotion of medicinal plants/ herbal gardens in U.T. Chandigarh. An area of 1½ acre has been kept reserved for Herbarium and the Research Block.
