Charminar Hyderabad was built in 1591 during the law of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, by its fifth ruler- Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah. A lot of theories have been put onward about Charminar and the reason for its construction. The mainstream and the most conventional single is that a plague epidemic had hit the city of Hyderabad, and the ruler Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb prayed at a particular spot for the plague to end. And when it did end, at that very place where he offered his prayer, the grand Charminar was built.
Various folklores and story have been circulating about Charminar since time immemorial. One of them is that it was built at the precise location where Quli Qutb Shah saw his future queen Bhagmati for the first time! Another one meeting about Charminar having an underground tunnel connected to the Golconda fort. However, due to lack of evidence, many such stories about Charminar history have been rejected by scholars and historians alike.

To get to the top floor one has to climb 149 flight of steps. All the four minarets are enclosed by 149 flight of steps.
Each side of the Minar has a giant arch, which is 11 m wide and 20 m high, measure from the peak to the plinth.
Each arch also has a timepiece, which was install in 1889.
The Charminar is a memorial built with stonework and lime mortar in Cazia style of architecture.
Within Charminar there lies two one more than another.
Along with a stone balcony there is a terrace above the two gallery which act like a roof.
The main gallery of the Minar has 45 enclosed prayer spaces. Just in front, there is a big open space to accommodate more people for prayer on Fridays.
