EME Temple
The property
Overview
EME Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It was built by the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (EME) corps of the Indian Army in 1966. The design of the temple is its highlight that incorporates the ideologies behind the traditional aspects of a place of worship and incorporates it with an ultra-urban structure. You can find a “Kalash” here that forms the top of the temple and represents Hinduism, a beautiful dome that is derived from the Islamic architecture, a tower beneath which the idol of Dakshinamurty is placed that represents Christianity, a golden structure that sits on top of the tower that is reminiscent of the Buddhist architecture, the entrance of the temple that is built according to the Jain tradition and the fire in the temple that represents Zoroastrianism. The silver arch behind the Shiva idol is a beautiful touch to the temple and the statue from Lord Ganesh is brought from Mahabalipuram. A visit here and you see a happy merge of all these representations seamlessly. Its secular design weaves the thought of oneness in spite of having influences of different religions.
