Kanger Valley National Park, located in the tribal region of Bastar, is one of the country’s most important biosphere hotspots. Spread over 2,000 sq km, it contains some of the last few tracts of virgin forestland in Asia and has been notified as the Asian Biosphere Reserve. Named after the beautiful Kanger river that waters its hilly terrain, the park is a botanist’s dream come true. In addition to the high quality of trees such as teak, sal, tendu, sirsa, mahua, amla, tamarind, this primordial forest is home to a wealth of bamboo, medicinal plants, creepers, herbs.November to April is the best time to visit the park when the temperatures are cold with a clear to a cloudy sky. Eco Park’s Butterfly Garden is a home to over 30 species, and was opened as the largest such garden in eastern India. Release butterflies closed in a jar and click pictures as the little ones find a safe place on your shoulder.
