History

Lakkar Bazaar or the wood Bazaar is on a narrow road adjoining the Ridge. The Bazaar road also leads to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and hospital and DAV school. It is popular for wooden decorative items and souvenirs. The items here are comparatively cheaper than in Delhi and other cities. The shops here offer almost everything from decorative items to articles used daily in kitchen. The market came into being after a group of Sikh carpenters came and settled here from Hoshiarpur. They continue to churn out charming wooden products from woods such as deodars and walnut, which are commonly found around Shimla
