The area in Goa where all of this took place was later marked by constructing a temple, dedicated to Lord Manguesh. Shiva came to be known as Lord Manguesh due Parvati’s words Mam Grisha that remains associated with the land and the tale. The original location where the temple was built is presently the location of village Cortalim, located at the south of the Zuari River. It was during the Portuguese invasion that the deity was shifted Priol, where it remains till this day.The main annual festival of the temple in held during the Magha Purnima, which is towards the end of February every year. The Ratha Yatra i.e. the pulling of the chariots, which is the main event during the festival, attracts thousands of pilgrims and tourists. During the festival the deity is decorated with a special royal look and taken around the village pulled by pilgrims on a chariot.

Interesting facts about Mangeshi Temple Goa

The Shiva Linga is worshiped trice every day. Early morning rituals include the Shodshopchar pujas which consist of Abhisheka, Laghurudra and Maharudra. Maha-Aarti is performed in the afternoon and the Panchopchar pooja is done at night.

Best time to see the temple in a colorful festive form is during the Magha Poornima Festival which is celebrated around the end of February. The idol of Lord Mangesh is decorated elaborately during this festival and people join in the Ratha Yatra to celebrate the festival of Magha Poornima.

Many festivals are celebrated in the temple throughout the year like Rama Navami, Akshaya Tritiya, Anant Vritotsava, Navaratri, Dussehra, Diwali and Mahashivratri.


Mangeshi Temple is the Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Mangueshi(incarnation of Lord Siva), it is located in Goa, India. The history of the temple says that it is one of the saved Hindu temples when the Goa fell into Portugues hand because Portugal spread the Christianism building the Churches. According to the history of the temple once lord Shiva after losing the game of dies with his wife Parvathi came to this place, when Parvathi came in search of Siva he took the form of the tiger and tried to prank Goddess Parvathi matha, Parvathi who was scared of the tiger called her consort Mahadeva for the help Saying oh Lord of Mountains please save me (Mam Girisha), then Lord Shiva appeared in his original form in front of Goddess Parvathi. the world Mam Girisha became associated with Lord Shiva and then the world became Mangurisha and late it took a form as Manguehi. The Shiva is worshipped in the form of a Shiva Linga. There is no entry fee for the temple and it will be opened on all days of the week.
